YODER FARMS

HISTORY

Nestled in the heart of rural Missouri in Shelby County between rows of whispering corn, white farm houses and red barns, you’ll find the 3rd generation of Yoders carrying on the legacy of the family farm, established in 1953. Living just a mile from the original homestead, Addie and husband Joshlin are raising the 4th generation that will hopefully someday continue the tradition started by Joshlin’s grandfather.

The Yoders currently raise field corn, sweet corn and soybeans. They also own and operate their own crop insurance agency.

Prior to living and working on the farm, Addie and Joshlin worked retail for several years during their post graduate life. In 2008, they made the decision to move back to the family farm, bringing along knowledge, skill sets and experience gathered outside of agriculture allowing a diversified perspective.

SUSTAINABILITY PRACTICES

The Yoder’s take great pride in caring for the health of their soil and leaving it in even better condition for the future generations to enjoy.

Some of the practices they have implemented include:

  • 100% no till soybeans

  • Extensive soil testing

  • Cover crop usage when applicable

  • Precision Agriculture: GPS Technology

  • Water quality testing station

    • This system shares data with other agriculture associations that can provide information and feedback on input applications that can be affected by rain events

AG INDUSTRY AND RURAL COMMUNITY WORK

Addie and Joshlin feel that it is very important for farmers to get involved and take action within the industry and their rural communities. From protection of markets and new development, legislation/policy and technology access to building relationships with consumers and serving in our hometowns, there is a place for everyone.

Addie is also very passionate about building relationships and telling their farm’s story, especially with the population of those who live outside of the agriculture industry.
